The iPhone 14 Pro debuted in 2022 and immediately won the hearts of Apple users. The base iPhone 15 was released a year later and also managed to captivate the public. And here arises the question, which smartphone to choose in 2024: the new “base” model or the older “Pro”? Let’s make a comparison to understand what’s best for you.

Appearance

Despite the similar design of the latest iPhones, each new release brings something new. And it was no different this time.

External features of the iPhone 14 Pro:

  • Weight — 206 grams. The body is made of durable stainless steel with a matte glass back. The surface is scratch-resistant and practically fingerprint-proof.
  • The sides are glossy in the color of the device. The contrast between the gloss and matte surface adds even more originality to the smartphone.
  • The camera consists of a module with three lenses and a LiDAR sensor.

External features of the iPhone 15:

  • Weight — 171 grams. The body is made of an ultra-durable aluminum-titanium alloy. Apple applied this technology for the first time in smartphone production. The glass on the back panel is also matte.
  • Unlike the chamfered edges of the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 15 has a more rounded geometry. Therefore, the smartphone doesn’t dig into the palm — important for some users. This feature adds another ergonomic advantage to Apple.
  • The camera is a compact module with two diagonally arranged lenses.

The 14 Pro looks expensive, while the iPhone 15 looks elegant. The streamlined camera module appears more minimalist. Additionally, the base version is lighter, which for some may be a factor in their choice.

Screen

The displays of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 Pro have a lot in common:

  • Both screens are OLED, which allows for incredibly vibrant and accurate images. The size is 6.1 inches.
  • Brightness is 1000 nits. This means that the image will be visible even on the sunniest day. Forget about glare and dim displays.

What’s the difference? It lies in the display refresh rate — this parameter indicates how many times per second the image on the screen is updated. In the base version of the iPhone 15, the refresh rate is 60 Hz, while in the Pro version, it’s 120 Hz. When you use the iPhone 14 Pro, every action — from swiping a text message to scrolling through menus — will be exceptionally smooth.

120 Hz is a real breakthrough in the world of displays. However, when performing everyday tasks, the user is unlikely to notice this difference. It’s only noticeable when using two devices simultaneously.

Another advantage of the 14 Pro is the Always-On Display. Thanks to this feature, the time is displayed even on the locked screen of the device: you don’t have to turn on the screen to check the time. However, the iPhone 15 doesn’t have this feature.

Camera

The answer to the question of which camera is better: in the base iPhone 15 or the iPhone 14 Pro, can be found by first examining the technical specifications of the smartphones.

iPhone 15:

  • Two lenses.
  • Main camera resolution — 48 MP, and ultra-wide-angle — 12 MP.
  • Optical zoom with a two-fold increase.

iPhone 14 Pro:

  • Three lenses.
  • Main camera resolution — 48 MP, and for the ultra-wide-angle, this parameter is 12 MP.
  • Threefold optical zoom.

In most cases, users take photos with the main camera. In both models, its resolution is 48 MP, allowing for vibrant and clear images without the need for additional effects and filters. However, the camera in the iPhone 15 is more advanced, resulting in photos that are maximally detailed.

Additionally, the base iPhone 15 model features new shooting modes, such as automatic portrait mode. When the system detects a person or a dog in the frame, it automatically switches to portrait mode.

Furthermore, the new feature allows for adjusting the depth of field and focus points not only during shooting but also during post-processing.

But the iPhone 14 Pro also has something interesting for bloggers, professional photographers, and videographers — video recording in ProRes format. Additionally, it features an additional telephoto lens for zooming in on distant objects.

Performance

There’s no doubt about the high performance of both devices. The smartphones are equipped with the revolutionary A16 Bionic chips. The RAM size is 6 GB, the frequency is 1398 MHz, and the processor is six-core. Therefore, apps launch instantly, images and videos are edited without any problems, and even “heavy” games are within the capabilities of both the base iPhone 15 and the iPhone 14 Pro.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro is equipped with a LiDAR sensor — a sensor for determining the distance to an object.

Battery Life

The autonomy of a smartphone depends on the battery capacity. In the iPhone 14 Pro, the battery is designed for 3200 mAh. This capacity is sufficient for performing everyday tasks throughout the day: browsing the internet, listening to music, reading social media, communicating, taking photos, and so on.

In the iPhone 15, the capacity is slightly larger — 3349 mAh, providing an additional hour of battery life. This extra hour will be appreciated by users who engage in a lot of photography, editing, blogging, and live streaming.

However, in terms of charging speed, the iPhone 14 Pro wins — with a power of 27 W, while the iPhone 15 has a power of 20 W.

Connector

The iPhone 15 is the first Apple smartphone to use the universal USB Type-C port. Its advantage is that you can use one charger for all devices. The iPhone 14 Pro model still retains the Lightning connector.

Who will take the laurels of victory?

Choosing any device is a matter of taste, budget, technical requirements, lifestyle, and so on. Therefore, in the battle of iPhone 15 vs Pro 14, there is no winner. Both models remain relevant in 2024. Smartphones are excellent for entertainment, work, and study. They are high-performance, well protected from dust and water, support True Tone option, Face ID identification, Dynamic Island.

However, there are differences:

  • In the iPhone 14 Pro, the refresh rate is 120 Hz, while in the iPhone 15, it is half as much.
  • The iPhone 15 supports new shooting modes and the option to adjust the depth of field on already taken photos. On the other hand, the 14 Pro has an additional telephoto lens with a threefold optical zoom and the ability to shoot in ProRes.
  • The iPhone 15 lasts about one hour longer than the 14 Pro, and thanks to the USB Type-C connector, finding a suitable charger has become easier.
  • The 14 Pro features a LiDAR distance sensor and the Always-On Display option. You can also find a configuration with 1 TB of memory — for those who store a lot of content.

Each smartphone has something to delight you with.
