A smartphone is an open book, from which much can be read about the owner of the device. And you risk being \u201cread\u201d every time you use your phone in public transport, let your child play with it, or lend it to a friend for a call. After all, people around can see which apps you use.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we provide instructions on how to hide apps on iPhone without deleting them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remove the icon from the \u201cHome\u201d screen<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

New versions of iOS (from 14) allow you to customize the home screen however you like. For example, you can simply remove some apps from it. At the same time, they will remain in the \u201cApp Library\u201d and will be available to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to hide an app icon on iPhone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Touch and hold it until the menu appears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Select \u201cRemove app,\u201d and then \u2014 \u201cRemove from Home Screen.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The icons will no longer be visible on the home screen, but the app itself will remain on the phone and will be displayed in the library.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    To restore the icon, go to the \u201cApp Library,\u201d find the desired app in the list. Press and hold the icon, then click \u201cAdd to Home Screen\u201d from the menu that appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Place it in an inconspicuous folder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    This way, you can hide not just one, but several apps by placing them in a common folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Here\u2019s the procedure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Press and hold the app icon. From the menu that appears, select \u201cEdit Home Screen.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Drag one icon onto another, and they will group into a common folder. Then give it a name unrelated to its contents, for example, \u201cUtilities.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. You can hide the widget inside the folder by moving it to the second page. Or you can group several apps at once so that the desired app gets lost within them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      But that\u2019s not all. For complete privacy, you need to disable app notifications. Go to \u201cSettings,\u201d find \u201cNotifications,\u201d then tap on the app\u2019s name. Next to the \u201cAllow Notifications\u201d button, slide the toggle to the left (it should turn gray). Now the app won\u2019t send notifications, thereby not revealing its presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      To confuse Siri, which can find almost anything, go to \u201cSettings\u201d > \u201cSiri & Search.\u201d Find and click on the desired app. Slide (make gray) the toggles next to each option: \u201cAllow Siri to Access App,\u201d \u201cShow App in Search,\u201d and so on. Disabling all of them will make the app invisible to Siri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      Hide the entire desktop<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      This life hack is also useful when you need to temporarily hide not just one app on your iPhone, but several at once. We simply move the apps to a dedicated desktop and hide it completely. When the apps are needed, they can be quickly restored or the desktop can be displayed again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      1. Enter edit mode by long-pressing on an empty part of the home screen until the icons start shaking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. At the bottom of the screen, you\u2019ll see dots (indicating the number of desktops) and miniature images of the home screens. There will be checkmarks next to them. Uncheck the desktop you want to hide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Tap \u201cDone\u201d when finished.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        The desktop will disappear along with its contents, but the apps will still be available in the library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Restoring them is very simple. Follow the same steps, but check the box next to the hidden desktop, and it will become visible again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Create a Custom Password<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        If you password-protect an app on your iPhone, only you will be able to access it. This requires, firstly, two-factor authentication, and secondly, a separately generated Apple ID password specifically for this app. Additionally, apps developed by other companies (not Apple) will not have access to your personal data stored in iCloud and will not receive your personal Apple ID password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Here\u2019s what you need to do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        1. Sign in to your account on apple.com.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Click on the \u201cApp-Specific Passwords\u201d field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Select \u201cAdd\u201d or \u201cCreate App-Specific Password.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        4. Follow the instructions that appear.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          You can also cancel one password or all of them in the \u201cApp-Specific Passwords\u201d section by selecting \u201cDelete\u201d (next to the desired password) or \u201cDelete All.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Note: When you reset your primary Apple ID password, all of your generated app-specific passwords are also deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

          Using AppLock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          You can download specialized applications like AppLock. It protects data on your device, creates widgets, and disguises programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Here\u2019s how to hide an app using AppLock:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          1. Create a new category for the group of apps you want to lock, i.e., hide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Select the desired apps from the list or choose all of them at once.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          3. Create and enter a password, as well as a passcode (answer to a security question).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Note<\/strong>: These measures do not affect searching in the \u201cApp Library.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

            Above (method #2), we explained how to disable notifications for the hidden app. Let\u2019s repeat those steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            If you confirm the lock within the application, the category with hidden programs will not be active. To activate it, you will need to unlock it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

            Clean up the list of purchased apps in the App Store<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            If you\u2019ve ever downloaded an app from the App Store, even a long time ago, it will be saved in your purchase history. Even if the app is deleted, you can still restore it. Therefore, it\u2019s recommended to clean up the list of downloads. Here\u2019s how to do it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            1. Sign in to your App Store account (select your photo or initials at the top of the screen).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. Go to \u201cPurchases.\u201d If \u201cFamily Sharing\u201d is enabled, select \u201cMy Purchases.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. Find the app, swipe it to the left, and select \u201cHide.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. Confirm your actions (\u201cDone\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              After this, the downloaded app will no longer be visible in your purchase history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

              Setting up \u201cScreen Time\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

              This option allows you to control the time spent using the smartphone by family members. It also helps limit the use of email, browser, camera, and other pre-installed apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              To set up your device:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                \n
              1. In \u201cSettings,\u201d click on \u201cScreen Time.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              2. If the option is not working, enable it and be sure to set a password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              3. Go to \u201cContent & Privacy Restrictions,\u201d then to \u201cAllowed Apps.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              4. In the list, block all the necessary programs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                The selected programs will no longer be displayed on the home screen. If your child is an advanced user, they may try to search in the \u201cApp Library\u201d or \u201cControl Center,\u201d but they won\u2019t succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                You can remove the block using the same scheme by going to \u201cAllowed Apps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Substitute the Icon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                Another clever scheme: hide the real app behind a \u201cdummy\u201d widget in the \u201cShortcuts\u201d app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Here\u2019s what you need to do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  \n
                1. Go to \u201cShortcuts,\u201d tap on the \u201c+\u201d (Add) in the top right corner, then select \u201cAdd Action.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                2. In the search, type \u201cOpen App.\u201d Various scripts will be suggested; choose the one you need.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                3. Tap on \u201cApp,\u201d then select the app that should launch when tapping on the icon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                4. Confirm your selection (\u201cDone\u201d).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                5. Hold down the button to bring up the contextual menu. In it, find and tap \u201cShare\u201d > \u201cAdd to Home Screen.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                6. Give it a new name and replace the widget (tap on it). Click \u201cAdd.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                  The result: a new icon is displayed on the desktop, hiding the real application. The actual widget is simply hidden away (see Method #2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
