At its September presentation, Apple unveiled updates to three smartwatch series: Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. All of them feature powerful hardware and basic options, but there are significant differences between them. In this article, we will take a look at what has changed and how to figure out which model is right for you.

What Do the 2025 Apple Watch Models Have in Common?

All smartwatches are equipped with an S10 chip. It ensures stable performance in basic and specific tasks. The watches consistently track activity, display notifications after syncing with an iPhone, and support Apple Pay payments. Built-in sensors record key indicators of your body’s condition:

  • heart rate and rhythm;
  • prolonged periods of low activity;
  • sleep quality and phases — Sleep Score provides an assessment based on how you feel.

A new Workout Buddy feature has been added — during workouts, it uses Apple Intelligence to analyze your data, cheer you on, and notify you of your records. However, it is only available if you are connected to an AI-enabled iPhone and Bluetooth headphones, and the device and Siri language are set to English.

The latest generations of Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Series now offer the ability to track signs of hypertension. The feature must be enabled in advance in the Health app on your phone.

Which Apple Watch to Choose: Differences Between the New Models

First and foremost, the new smartwatches differ in terms of materials, screen size, sensor set, and battery life. Depending on these factors, the price of the 2025 Apple Watch also varies.

Apple Watch Ultra 3: Navigation and Extreme Sports

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the most functional model in the lineup, designed for active recreation and challenging conditions. The main focus here is on long battery life and accurate location tracking. The latter is provided by dual-frequency GPS, which works correctly even in dense urban areas, forests, or mountains. 5G support has also been added.

For the first time, Apple Watch now supports satellite communication for SOS calls. The feature is currently limited to a number of countries: the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and several European countries — see the reference guide for details. Another reason to buy the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is its convenient screen: it is now wide-angle and the largest in the line at 49 mm.

The battery life of the Apple Watch in this series has increased to 42 hours in standard mode and 72 hours in energy-saving mode. The screen has retained its peak brightness of 3000 nits and has become more convenient to view from different angles: you won’t have to take your eyes off the road to check the time. The Apple Watch Ultra 3’s features are geared towards extreme sports — from diving (to depths of up to 100 m) to high-speed sports.

Apple Watch Series 11: an Overview

Apple Watch Ultra 3

Unlike the previous series, Apple Watch Series 11 is designed as an everyday watch, but its capabilities are not limited. The gadget is suitable for training in the gym and outdoors, snorkeling and swimming, relaxing at the sea or in the mountains — the set of options adapts to everything, including being used as an Apple Watch for fitness.

How this model differs from the previous generation:

  • LTE and 5G support in cellular networks;
  • an expanded palette of up to seven colors (in titanium and aluminum cases);
  • up to 24 hours of battery life in normal mode;
  • Ion-X glass that is twice as scratch-resistant.

The main focus is on your comfort. You can use this Apple Watch model for health: the watch takes ECGs, tracks sleep and warns of possible apnea, offers custom workouts and advanced activity metrics. All information is conveniently displayed on 42 or 46 mm screens.

Apple Watch SE 3: Budget-Friendly Device

You’ll like the Apple Watch SE 3 if you don’t want to buy the flagship model, but still want access to the key features of a smart gadget. It tracks activity, monitors sleep, supports gestures and voice control via Siri, but cannot perform ECGs or measure blood oxygen levels.

The Apple Watch SE 3 has been upgraded with an Always-On display (44 and 40 mm), fast charging, 5G support, and apnea monitoring. The case is stronger, and the glass is four times more resistant to damage than the previous generation.

You can buy an Apple Watch SE 3 as an alternative to a phone for your child. In this case, the watch is set up via the parent’s iPhone, linking it to a separate number. This allows you to answer calls and track geolocation. Charging lasts up to 18 hours in normal mode and up to 32 hours in energy-saving mode.
